EGG

Here's the first assignment for Photography Class with Manolo García. We had to take a picture of an egg and then take a complementary picture as well. I just love the color it came out. The egg is so white and the background is so red that I just love it. It might sound silly but I like it.

The complementary, well, I thought that one was going to be complicated but when I when to the kitchen to get the egg I grabbed the package and I saw it: the egg carton! And that's how I came up with that idea. And I really like the pictures I took.

Here's the template with both pictures.

Sci-Fi Poster Design for Kafka

This one is for Illustrator class. We had to design a poster with any theme for any client. The only things we could use were basic tools. Rectangles, circles, elipses, gradients, fonts, stars... not even the pen tool!
I love Sci-Fi so I came with the idea of a rocket and then I decided to create an event: Sci-Fi movies session somewhere. I thought about some places I've been and why not somewhere in the city I'm from: Seville.
That's why I chose Kafka Club. Why 42??? You shouldn't have to ask that.

I love drawing in Illustrator even I'm not really good at it. I'll get better, I hope... ¬¬

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Cover Design with Flare Tool

First assignment done this Second Quarter! This is for my Illustrator class. Our Fucking Awesome teacher told us to use the flare tool. So our teacher said this tool is useless and he challenged us to do something interesting with it.
Here's what I designed. I'm kind of proud of this illustration. It didn't take too much and I feel like it is a cool design for this book.

Enjoy your day!

JAPI CHRISMUKKAH!!!

InDesign class Christmas card express design! Well, I did something else but the inspiration and the base came from that last InDesign class we had.

But, as always, I wish 'Japi Chrismukkah' instead of only Chirstmas!

He'brew Commercial [Rough cut]

This is our rough cut for He'brew beer commercial. It was so much fan shooting it even it was freezing cold in the Mission this morning. But I really enjoyed doing it. I worked with Tori and Brendan this time. It was kind of weird at first because we had 3 ideas we liked. Then we explained to the instructor and he told us to go in a complete different direction. We did as we were told and here's the result. I just laugh everytime I watch it.
Done in one day. It is "Commercial Express"!

Written, Directed & Edited by:
Brendan, Tori and Bamidala

Actors:
Ross & Ricky Relámpago!

Enjoy!

(My) PULP FICTION

One of the last things I finished yesterday after getting up at 7 a.m. to work on Photoshop assigments. Due is next December 9th but I prefer to have everything ready as soon as possible. No more PROCRASTINATION for me! After the career I promised myself I'd be more organized! Here I am working hard to get things done way before the due!

This assignment was a movie poster. We had to choose a movie and make our own interpretation of the poster or create a new movie and make the poster. I chose Pulp Fiction. And I decided to use the famous Quarter Pounder as the focus of the print. Because half of the movie is about the difference between the American Quarter Pounder and the European one.

I bought a Quarter Pounder at 11 a.m. at Market St McDonald's. I went to the school to take picutres at the studio. And I got nice pics of the burger. Then I placed it on a counter and I found a gun and I just added my roommie's cigarettes.

It doesn't look as good as I wanted but I'm done with it. I've been working on it for too many hours and I'm tired of looking at it.

Spanish Ferpection Soundtrack!

Original picture

Print based on the old picture

---------------------------------------

Original picture

Print based on the old picture

This assignment was a challenge. We got two old pictures (our teacher's parents) and we had to used them in 2 prints. They could be two different campaigns or two pieces for same product. Since they're old pictures I thought they would look better on an old collectors piece. So that's how I came up with the vinyl ideas! I love vinyls! And I love Amoeba Music. Then I realized I could design the cover of two Spanish bands LP. I didn't even look for the real covers of Ellos and Hidrogenesse. I was listening to them and I thought: Why not? [Music inspiration came from The Ferpection OST]
It is not the greatest campaign, but I like the way it turned out.

You can see how they original pictures were and the final result.

Planners Campaign Vol. 3

[Building billboard; Financial Distric]

[Bus shelter at Geary Boulevard and Powell Street (Union Sq.)]

Remember those posters for the Planners campaign? Well those posters were meant to be in an outdoor campaing. The final step was to place them in two different spots somewhere in the city. I changed the one in the bus shelter a little bit. I moved the headline closer to the girl. It looks better now, I think.

That's it for these planners now.

Chrome Bags: Explosion!

This was one of the hardest things I've ever done in Photoshop: an explosion!
I was thinking of finding a tutorial but I wanted to give it a try myself first. And I didn't work bad. It could be way better, but for me works. This is what someone I met months ago in my last months of career would call 'Visual Pyrotechnics'. I love that expression ^^*
The whole explosion was created with regular pictures I took of different things: asfalt, wall of the window next to mine, light in the city from the MUNI...

We had to create 2 prints; one for Chrome Bags and the another for Timbuk2. I'm still working on my Timbuk2 piece.

Ellis @ Hyde

Color

Black & White

This is a picture I really like. It shows the beauty of my new neighborhood: The Tenderloin. This pic was taken at Ellis St and Hyde St. I like that building, I don't know why. I guess it reminds me of a city, with all those bricks. I love brick walls.
The light was perfect and the color is amazing. I'm learning how to use my camera and I try to do my best ^^*.
In this assignment we had to turn a picture black and white in 4 or 5 different ways and choose the best one. And as you can see, it turned out well. It was hard to decide which one was the best way of those 5, but I picked this one which is the 'black & white adjustment layer'.

Retouching my roommie!

Before

After

My poor Roommie is always helping me with class assignments. Everytime I need an actor or a model he's always there for me. THANKS!!!! I took the picture when he just woke up ¬¬

This time we had to take a picture of someone with bad skin or moles and clean his or her face. My roommie's skin is perfectly fine but he has many moles so he's perfect for this assigment.
There is no mystery here. You can see the differences. Now I know what is behind all those Fashion Magazines!!! There is no perfect model! Photoshop always helps!

Playing (Human) God with Perspective

Before

After

We learnt how to play God with buildings. And this is the result of one of the assignments. I don't even remember where I took this picture but I can tell it is in San Francisco. I had problems with the windows, this is a tricky building to make it bigger. But this exercise is so cool! It was exciting playing God for a while. Actually, I should of done it better and take more time. But I had too many things to do for the same class as you will see soon.

GOGORATU #0: The Cover

Finally I'm done with the cover of the GOGORATU fanzine. It's an Experimental Fanzine I'm working on with a bunch of other artists from Europe. The project is interesting and I hope the fanzine #0 will be on the Gogoratu Blog soon. Since it is a class assignment for InDesign, I might print a copy. This must be the beginning of something cool!
Hope you like it!

Ocultura

[Ocultura]

Views of Japan Town

So I'm learning how to use my camera and here I am in Japan Town taking pics with different exposures and then retouching the pics in Photoshop. The top one is kinda blue and cold and the bottom one almost looks like a picture from an old magazine.

I just love taking pictures and I love it more and more everyday.

It isn't for an assignment, it was just for fun!

This is the second piece of the Planners Campaign for Miami Ad School. Same as the other with Renata but this time my model was Erik.

Planners Campaign Vol. 1

Here is the first part of the 2 pieces campaign for Miami Ad School Account Planners Bootcamp. It is also for Photoshop and we had to take pictures of real Planner students from the school here in SF and create a campaign with them.
I love Propaganda posters so I came with the idea of turning those pieces into propaganda posters. Instead of using red as base color, I used pink which is the corporative color.
I'm very glad with the results.

Photoshop Fine Art: The Blue Ray

Another assignment for Photoshop class. We needed to create a 'Fine Arts' image taking the pic ourselves, of course. So I went up to the roof of my building and I saw it. That huge blue ray I've seen before when I was walking through Ellis Street. I love it. I love painted building walls. And that one in particular is one of my favorites here in SF. I have something for Blue Rays. I met this guy in an H&M in Dublin that had a Blue Ray tattoo and then I became obsessed with them.
I don't know if this looks like a 'Fine Art' piece but for me looks cool and beautiful, so I'm printing it for class. At least one of my finals is done.
I liked the time I took to take this pictures on the roof. I've been living here more than 2 months and I never went up to the roof. I was curious about it so why not go to the roof on Thanksgiving Day? I found many interesting views from them but I really need to get a zoom to capture them.
Hope you like it.

Domestic Violence AdCouncil Poster

This wasn't really a class assignment. The real assignment was a PSA. We chose to make it about Domestic Violence. So all we had to do was the commercial for TV. During the shooting I decided to take a picture of our actress who became my model because I got an idea for a print poster.
I liked my idea and I liked how it turned out. I used our claim and the AdCouncil as the client. It could be a part of the whole campaign. I think she was perfect for this print because of her tattoo. The flame is so meaningful. I tried to retouch the pic on Photoshop so it looks dull but I made the flame brighter.

Bike to Work 2010 Poster

This is another poster for my Photoshop class. This time we had to design a poster for San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's Bike to Work Day which is on May 13th 2010. This day they try to make people ride a bike instead of take public transportation or car to get to the office. Next time is gonna be my Birthday and I'm thinking of going by bike to the school to join the initiative.
For this piece I got the inspiration from Saul Bass posters and art. He is one of my favorites, his 'VERTIGO' poster is one of the best movie posters ever. I drew that bike and the man in suit with the briefcase on Illustrator. Then I got these little cars and buses on Illustrator too. And when I was done I realized it wasn't an Illustrator class, instead it was for Photoshop. So I had to make some changes. I found pictures of the MUNI and also of a car that looks like a Seat 600. I touched their color a little bit and make them bluu+grey+white.
I just wanted to bring out the bikes over the cars and buses. Those are more like the background even they have a meaning. Again I tried to keep it simple but at the same time I wanted to communicate with it.
That's it.

Sunday Streets Poster

This is a poster for my Photoshop class. We had to design a poster for SUNDAY STREETS here in San Francisco. They close some streets between April and September every year to let people do activities outdoor.
In Photoshop class we always have to take our own pictures. I didn't have a clear idea yet but I knew I wanted to take a picture of a park and I wanted to make it as a collage. Yesterday I took my bike I went to Jefferson Square to take some pics. Once I got the pics I tried to figure out how my poster was going to be. Then I got the idea: cartoons! Yeah. So I opened Illutrator and I began drawing with my WACOM.
This morning I woke up, I finished the drawings and I put them in Photoshop. And I liked the way everything was matching.
Even they try to show people they close streets and they make them car-less, I flipped the concept and I focus on the opposite.
Hope you like the result.

YBCA Brochure: Takeshi Kitano

[Outside of the brochure; it folds in 4]

[Inside of the brochure; a poster]

Another assignment for our own clients. My client, YBCA, my product, Takeshi Kitano Special Session. This time, like the SFBC, we had to design a brochure. As I said before, I like to keep it simple but at the same time I like it to be attractive. This one is less complex than the SFBC one but still interesting. It fold in 4. It's a big square that become a little square when is fold.
As with the SFBC I tried to include a poster inside. I'm so into posters, yes. And I wanted it to be useful too so I put the schedules on it. I like the result.
When I print it I'll take pics of it so you can see how it looks when is fold.

- B -

*Note: Brochure = folleto

SFBC Brochure

[Outside of the brochure: it folds in a half and then it goes like an accordion. Logo is the back and 'Ride a Bike' is the front]

[Inside poster with a relief map of San Francisco]

This was another assignment for SFBC. This time we had to design a brochure. Some people think this is silly and a non-creative assignment, I disagree. I love brochures and catalogs and I think you can me very creative with them. At least I tried to be a little bit creative with this one. I love posters and I decided to place one inside the brochure. It is not a simple picture, it is more than that. It is a relief map of the city of San Francisco, where you can see how high the streets are. It's cool and useful.
The way the brochure folds in kind of weird but the result is nice. It folds a long through the middle and then as an accordion. When it's closed looks squared. When I print it I'll take a pic of the result to let everyone see how it looks all folded.

YBCA Postcard: Takeshi Kitano

This is another postcard. Same assignment, different client. This time we got to choose the client and I decided to work with Yerba Buena Center of Arts [YBCA]. It's like the CAAC in Seville, so it makes me feel closer to home, I guess.
YBCA does many artistic things and they also have a theater where they show non-commercial films. I love cinema so I decided to pick that path. I chose their theater as my product having them as my client. So I created a special session for Takeshi Kitano. And that's what I'm trying to communicate with the postcard. I also kept it simple and clean.
We're gonna be working with this client we chose and with the SFBC for the rest of the quarter so we need to design an Art Direction and follow it in the rest of the assignments.

SFBC Postcard

One side postcard design for San Francisco Bicycle Coalition [SFBC]. Also done with InDesign. This client was given by the instructor. He loves bikes and wine ^^*.
I like simple things that mean a lot. Members of this coalition love bikes and they want people to support and join them.

Artafacta CD Case

[Out cover: left side goes inside; middles side is the back and right side is the front]

[Inside: left side is the inside cover; middle is inside back where the cd is placed; right side is the one that folds in]

CD Case for Artafacta Fanzine. It was a class assignment and the client was selected by ourselves. It's a 3 parts carton cd case. I kept the design simple as the client is. I used their cover images in the design. I like the way they use only 4 colors and keep it simple and clean. I tried to do the same so it matched with their identity.

So let's see, I created this Blog a long time ago, months, maybe years and I never used it! So silly! I should start using it now that I start creating things again. I'm gonna work harder and try to upload as much projects as I can, but can't promise anything. Let's see how it goes...
